Clear thinking on Jihad

Reader comment on item: Jihad and the Professors

Submitted by A non-Moslem (United States), Dec 25, 2002 at 00:48

Mr. Pipes presents a balanced and a clear perspective on Jihad, which is rarely, if ever, encountered in the American press. Americans are more familiar with two other totalitarian regimes, namely Marxism and Nazism, both of which had simple principles of brainwashing adherents and eliminating all opponents physically. Militant or pure Islam, while essentially a sister of these ideologies, is given a romantic cloak amidst lay Americans. For example, it is associated with Alladin's lamp or belly dancing, and the like. However, 9/11 brought the horrors of pure Islamism to America and it is very important the public here learn the ideological basis for it. Else, there is the grave danger that, like the rest of the world, America may learn it the hard way.
