Jihad Is What It Does

Reader comment on item: Jihad and the Professors

"...warfare against unbelievers to extend Muslim domains": Dr. Pipes' definition of Jihad is what it does. Not since the German Third Reich has the world faced such a dedicated threat. Instead of the Master Race, we now face the Master Religion. Instead of Jews as the earth's disposible scum, it's us Infidels. The children of Lenin tried the Master Economic System, based on Five Year Plans, but at least they never seriously claimed to be a superior species, except during each Olympics!

And, despite state-professed atheism, the old peasant Russians kept their Eastern Orthodox icons displayed in back rooms. In retrospect, I'd take the Soviet Communists back in trade for today's Militant Islamists because I don't think we've yet begun to see the damage they will do. The fact that most university academics are clueless as to the mounting danger, and even speak as apologists for its source, should come as no surprise to any student of 20th Century history.

When has academia ever recognized the approach of danger? I fear that the generation they misinform today will learn tomorrow, in very hard lessons, just what Jihad really means.
