Meaning of Jihad

Reader comment on item: Jihad and the Professors

Submitted by David Pters (United States), Nov 1, 2002 at 12:44

Who cares what the lofty meaning of Jihad is?! The fact is, it is being used to commit acts of murder and terrrorism on many fronts, to many people. The true meaning is lost when the religious teachers of Islam promote hate and call for acts of violence.
Regardless of how benign the faith is supposed to be, it has been hijacked by violent people and has an entire new purpose and meaning. There are many thousands who have been killed, and peresecuted, in many lands to attest to the violence and war like nature of the new Islam.
