Price of freedom is eternal vigilance

Reader comment on item: Jihad and the Professors

Submitted by WWill (United States), Nov 1, 2002 at 18:52

The viewpoints expressed all seem to fail to mention one interesting fact - the Crusades contained many of the same concepts of "jihad", and may have had significant bearing on the formulation of the current Islamic concept of "jihad" as described by Dr. Pipes. After all, the Crusaders took the position that the heathens either converted to Christianity or died because of it. Hitler, Pol Pot, the Crusaders and other fanatic religious zealots are now blissfully pushing up daisies, yet the world is still saddled with these Islamists who have perpetrated September 11th, 2001, and who would do it again in a heartbeat.

Just remember, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
