Reader comment on item: "Death to America"

Submitted by Stephen Meyer (United States), Mar 17, 2003 at 13:01

The harsh reality of the current situation in Iraq is this...The regime in place at this time is composed of murderous, torturing, eccentric individuals who seem focused on maintaining tension and instability in the world. Their own people live in fear every day of their lives. They don't know what freedom of speech is for fear of being the next person to have their own,or their children's eyes gouged out, acid poured on them , or other creative forms of torture, or death. Everyone desreves a chance to be happy and content with where they are in life. Iraqis know fear and pain.

In the Iran-Iraq war, Saddam used horrible chemical weapons on the Iranians as well as on his own people(the Kurds). Mothers and babies died holding on to each other. Many survived only to live each and every remaining day of their lives with the brutal memories of watching friends and family die horrible deaths.

Iraq still has these weapons, and the only reason to desire them is if you plan to use them. The world has seen what Saddaam is capable of doing and what he has done. We in the US are fortunate to be strong enough to deal with this situation and it is our responsibility to take up for weaker people that have been through enough.

To think we should stand by and let it be would be a crime in itself.
