Who murdered the Marines in Beirut?

Reader comment on item: "Death to America"

Submitted by Douglas W. Coulter (United States), Aug 29, 2005 at 23:31

I was kicked out of the Marine Corp without a required courtmartial because I publicly declared who was responsible. The US Marine Corps was responsible. Over 300 men were billited in one structure on the edge of a combat zone. Loaded weapons were prohibited and even the men guarding the perimeter were not allowed to carry loaded weapons. The comander on site refused to allow barracades, probably on orders from the pentagon. I believe our leaders thought a blood bath would cause Americans to demand a war for revenge and were not prepared for the American peoples response.

After serving since 1977 I was very much awear of the US military's need for a war in that time to justify our exsistence. Vietnam left a gaping wound in military morale. I am not aware of any other incident in USMC history where the marines murdered their own. Just like King David with Uriah they let an enemy do the killing but the blood is on our hands.
