Reader comment on item: "Death to America"

Submitted by Tom (United States), Apr 14, 2003 at 14:49

Terrorism is not secular to any organization, PLO merely being a case in point.

An old axiom, Those Who Have The Weapons Make The Rules.

These "rules" exist in any culture, Western, Eastern, Mid-Eastern, fill in the blanks.

There are bullies (dictators) the world over. To minimize a human condition by assigning a "culture" or a religion to it is ridiculous and is the work of an underactive intellect.

Throughout history, countries/cultures have imposed their will by power and the application of force. Some countries veil it with "civilization", others just jump and shoot.

We are only as advanced as we exist in conditions that are normal for us.

I can take a peace activist out of his or her protected sheltered environment and commit atrocities on them, chances are, it will become an epiphany. The same can pretty much be applied world wide.

Cultural differences aside, we all bleed the same color, I wish that the fanatacism on both sides could abate long enough for people to recognize that we all have far more in common than we have differences.

As much as I abhor war, it is a sometimes necessary tool to set people free upon their own path. Where they go on that path is up to them; that is self-determination.

In this day of instant gratification, perhaps people will realize that democracy does not fit everyone, nor does it occur overnight.

We have been at it just over two hundred years, we have adjusted it along the way because it is flexible as we are tolerant. Perhaps that is why we are hated by so many, we evolve, we progress, we as a people take the national step of aiding.
