Not in favor of a ban.

Reader comment on item: Ban Islam?

Submitted by Darren (United States), Aug 31, 2007 at 10:37

Much of the talk of banning these books is misguided. If people sincerely believe they are false teachings, then surely for free thinking people there should be no inherent danger in their availability.

Those who oppose Islamic extremism are on more solid ground opposing the actions exhorted by Muslim extremists, which can be restricted under libel, sedition and anti-violence laws, rather than seeking to ban the book of their core beliefs.

Finally, I must add a word on your V-for-Vendetta remark. I saw this film on a flight once and almost laughed aloud at implausibility of the Gay character who keeps a secreted copy of the Koran. The films narrative turns on its head the reailty that most followers of that book would have nothing to do with, and some would support violent sanction, of that particular characters lifestyle - demonstrating once again the illogical upside down nature of morality among those involved in the film industry in the US and Britain.
