Reader comment on item: Ban Islam?

Submitted by R K Iyer (India), Aug 31, 2007 at 08:30

By making available copies of the Quran on a large scale and to every literate person in the West and in India, the same objective of revulsion towards Islam can be achieved. I have read the Quran at least fourteen times in various translations and the more I read it the more I am convinced that it is against all norms of tolerance, spiritual decency and ethical relevance.

All we need to do is to print the Quran together with a few comments suitably added at appropriate places and make it available at less than the cost price to everyone. Quran and the life of their prophet make sense only to those who have been born into the faith and been brainwashed by their upbringing. To the others, its irrelevance, its absurdity, its violence, its rigidity will be all too readily apparent and at first reading itself. Banning is not the answer: making it widely available (with suitable comments) is the answer. R K Iyer
