Western support of military coups against Islamist governments: A question for Dr. Pipes

Reader comment on item: A Million Moderate Muslims on the March

Submitted by Pez Dispenser (Israel), May 9, 2007 at 04:30

Dr. Pipes writes the following:

"And do they not suggest that ignorant non-Muslim busybodies should get out of the way of those moderate Muslims determined to relegate Islamism to its rightful place in the dustbin of history?"

Should the west support military coups if the governments are taken over by elected Islamists?

This would be against our democratic traditions, but probably in our best interests. Or, should we just "get out of the way"?

Daniel Pipes replies:

Democracy is a means to an end, not an end in itself. See Germany, 1933.
