"Moderate" -What does THAT mean?

Reader comment on item: A Million Moderate Muslims on the March

Submitted by Steven Hess (United States), May 8, 2007 at 11:39

A ray of hope; a straw to clutch at. Maybe our children will survive and our grandchildren will not be wearing burkas and living under Sharia.

However, am I the only one who struggles with the whole concept of "moderate Muslims?"
The definition would appear to be describing Muslims who do not want to kill us all, and possible include in their number a fraction who do not need to see Israel wiped off Western maps (they are already wiped of Arab ones for the most part).

Whoever heard of let alone uses the terms "Moderate Jews," "Moderate Christians," Moderate Budhists," or to be inclusive, "Moderate Amish!" The term is only applied to Islam because we are forced to differentiate between the murderous and those that merely pray and strive for Islamic triumphalism. "Moderate" in context is a position somewhere left of lethal but a goodly distance from "friendly"...I guess these days you settle for what you can get.
