Turkey's Military ...

One point that should be made very clear is that the Turkish military are not simply power mongers wishing to overthrow a duly elected government which they may find offensive. Turkey is not just a democratic nation, it is a consitutional democracy. The loyalty of the Turkish military is NOT to the will of the majority, but to the consitution of their nation. Like our own military, they have taken a solemn oath to protect and defend the consitution of their country.

For this reason, I take great issue with Condoleeza Rice and our administration for scolding the Turkish military from being loyal to their sworn duty to uphold their constitution and if necessary overthrow a government which violates the protections to personal liberty guaranteed by the Turkish consitution.
