in response to reader comment: Islam In Turkey

As much as I would like to believe the words of my dear friend, Mr. Gurbuzer, I am forced to voice my disagreement with him when he says that " there are millions of muslims in Turkey who one can call moderates." We are comforted by his assurance. However, let me, on my part, assure Mr.Gurbuzer, and others of his ilk, that this " moderation" displayed by a section of your population is only a posture to catch the eye of the Western powers who are presently in the process of forging a united European Community after having gone through centuries of fratricidal warfare.

For one, it is Turkey, and its muslims, who are the primary culprits in the breach of world peace. For the greater part of its history, Turkey has been an expansionist, aggressive power, preying on the territory of its militarily weaker neighbours. In fact, it should have been deprived of Constantinople but through the unstatesmanlike attitude of the West European politicians, it was allowed to retain possession of the same. He is only partially right when he says that the secularism and modernism that we see there is due to its "urban society and military." I would like to point out that it is only the military, with its no-nonsense attitude and an iron hand, that is preventing the country from becoming an islamic hellhole. If one were to remove the military from the power equation in Turkey, one would see the masses in their true colours- yearning for the days of yore, when the flag of the Caliphate flew over half the earth. Is this not true Mr. Gurbuzer ?
