Dr Pipes, I disagree

Reader comment on item: A Million Moderate Muslims on the March

You posit that ..

"... radical Islam is the problem and moderate Islam the solution.."

Sorry to disagree : the problem is NOT (only) radical Islam. The problem is in the QORANIC TEXTS.

You can crush ALL the radical Muslims in the world, in their hundreds of thousands, to the last suicide bomber.. You will certainly have a respite from Islam. But only for a while - several decades, even a century -for soon enough a new generation will rise , and under any pretext, renew the Jihad. It happenned several times in history.

For that "solution" to work, you must :

1. Subdue the radicals to extinction with the help of the moderates (if they show such inclination and willingness)

2. Almost at the same time, while the iron is hot, have these moderates thoroughly amend the Coran and abrogate (or erase) all references to Jihad and all verses spewing contempt and hatred for non-muslims... Suppress such terms as DAR EL HARB, or DAR EL ISLAM.. soften perhaps their claim on Jerusalem .. etc..

Wishful thinking !!
