Sorry, Jon, but I don't believe I have made any "assertions" about Islam. My statements were more on the order of 'observations' and, unfortunately, when you observe Islam what you see is pretty nasty.

If they in fact invented distillation, well, that's fine with me but I suspect that the process of distillation, a relatively simple thing to do, was independently stumbled upon in many parts of the world with no input from the Middle East. And even if Muslims had invented bourbon itself, as you somewhat obliquely implied, rather than enjoy it they decided that anyone who drinks the stuff deserves eighty lashes with a cane as punishment. So much for the cultural advances of Islam. I rest my case.
