4 months in prison and 30 lashes for walking a dog and a dog-friendly fatwa worth € 440 000

Reader comment on item: Resisting Islamic Law

Submitted by Ianus (Poland), Feb 22, 2008 at 14:54

It's might seem interesting to put Dr. Pipes' fine article in the context of two incidents that have recently taken place in the Islamic Republic of Iran where an elderly man, after being whipped was sent to jail for ... walking a dog :

At the same time a would-be forerunner of Mahdi has negotiated a fatwa which allows him to buy German guard dogs :

A real forerunner of Mahdi is not not bound by Islamic laws binding common Moslems, is he? Thinking of Ahmadinejad's German dogs one can't resist the recollection of another great lover of guard dogs for whom the Iranian president has always cherished deep admiration. Wasn't he inspired in his chooice by some 3rd Reich newsreels showing Hitler with his guard dogs?
