A problem

Reader comment on item: Is Turkey Going Rogue?

Submitted by Jack Kalpakian (Morocco), Sep 28, 2011 at 09:56

Daniel Pipes is correct. Turkey is a problematic actor in the international sphere. I strongly differ with him on his characterization of the AK party government, which has been positive internally. I would like to point out however, that Turkey is a problem that people like Pipes helped construct: his particular political movement and community have been active in preventing every single attempt to hold that country accountable for its behavior towards its neighbors for the last forty years. And now Turkey has bit the hand that fed it, he needs to review honestly how often he defended Turkey in public fora and how his work was used to deny justice to others before producing an article such as this one.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I did argue that Turkey was a model for the Muslim world, which it was, but I did not justify what was wrong in that country.
