Reader comment on item: Is Turkey Going Rogue?
in response to reader comment: Erdogan Takes Turkey Into (Militant) Islam

From certain appearances, that as Israel is always having to 'check their six' at every turn, the situation between Israel and Turkey bears the notion that certain influences in the Israeli government circles actually thought Turkey was a type of ally, if not one in the fuller sense of trusted friend. If there was a lesser sense this was going to sour before the Gaza flotilla incident, the Mavi Marmara clash was the next warning that relationship issues were going down fast and the departure of the Israeli envoy became the clincher. The American Chief Executive's position regarding Turkey was exposed for the nonchalance it bears when the Secretary of State's visit failed to bring any confidence that relations were getting better; in fact they got worse. Israel can attest to that.

Israel will find shortly that unless there is a 'strength of commitment' for her sovereignty (and not the words only show and tell at the U. N.), the intimations of actions in support of the 'Palestinian' cause will come crashing over the borders as the enemies of Israel start yet another attempt to dislodge the Jewish state from its historical moorings. Turkey will be figured quite largely in that effort, hopefully not to too much surprise on the part of the Israeli's. They cannot afford another 1973 style breach that will lead to complications of a global catastrophic sort. Oh, they'll come out on top; but it'll cost, much to the everlasting regret of Turkey.
