Long Life in Turkey Remains to be Seen

Reader comment on item: Is Turkey Going Rogue?

As the things set in motion by Turkey's government activities, we wonder if, as is proffered by others elsewhere, if indeed Turkey is headed in a direction all would be comfortable with, ostensibly to Mr. Havas' hope of 'long live [sic] Turkey.' But, as is noted by Dr. Pipes and as asserted by Mr. Havas, what is seen and what is being told to the world tells a compellingly different story. And to be sure, as is always the case, Israel is made the brunt of the point.

Now from an evangelical Christian standpoint (you know this reader has to go there), does it make Biblical sense to make a big issue out of Turkey in all of this discussion about Arab upheavals and Turkey's potential in an armed confrontation with Israel? In and of itself, Turkey, not being Arabic, could very easily be dismissed from being involved in the upheavals, a point further made easy by its more stable government.

But here's the rub: Turkey's territory is contained in several prominent places in the Hebrew Holy Bible and Brit Hadassah. Most specifically , in the Revelation, the seven churches in territory now in Turkey are the object of the letters from the resurrected Messiah about His plan for the region; so there is no limit to what this can all mean to being part of Turkey's emergence in Islamic fervor against Israel. It is written that Israel will be faced off against all comers: Turkey's definitely in the sphere of all that is going to happen, whether they thought they wanted to be or not.

In any event, it is not going to be long in waiting to see how Turkey is going to be involved: the mechanism is already started, as it has been noted here and elsewhere.
