Reader comment on item: Will Europe Resist Islamization?

Submitted by Dan (United States), Apr 3, 2008 at 11:14

While it is hoped Europe comes to its senses, it seems doubtful to me, with all due respect to Dr. Pipes. There have been a tiny handful of brave souls, some in public office who have raised warning flags only to be met with a yawn from most of their constituents. Furthermore, these efforst are labeled hate speech, race mongering, racist and all manner of pejoratives to stiffle candid debate.

The west simply can't seem to come to grips with an existential threat; the cancer from within will simply destroy the west in coming generations and frankly, I'm glad I won't be here!

My only hope for the US, paradoxically enough is its immigration "problem". I suspect those folks who have come to the US from places other than muslim countries will continue to expand in numbers and will not be willing to so easily give up that which they fought so hard to get here. And therein may lie the problem: we all simply have it too easy and won't recognize the value of what we have until it may be taken from us. Thats my long term analysis, and I hope I'm wrong.
