Reader comment on item: Will Europe Resist Islamization?

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Apr 3, 2008 at 08:45

The baptism of Magdi Allam into Catholicism, and the Geert Wilders film Fitna both represent the trend toward a much firmer stance against radical Islam, and perhaps against Islam itself.

There is a lot of evidence that there are moderate Muslims (I know a few) who would never even dream of becoming a martyr for Islam, who do drink alcohol (not prohibited in Christianity, Judaism and other religions) , wear "normal" clothes, whose women refuse to wear any type of head covering, who are by anyone's standards, just normal people living normal lives without the obsession to kill all Jews or to make the world bend under Shari'a.

However, it makes me shudder when I see what has happened to some countries in Europe, especially the UK. Islam is fast becoming the world's bully religion, and the radical elements of that religion are gaining a foot hold. These spineless governments imagine that giving in to bullies equals peace with them, but as most intelligent people know, the only way to eradicate evil ideologies is to stand against them, knowing that there may be some difficulties to deal with.

Someday in retrospect, these sacrifices that seemed insurmountable, may seem trivial compared to what would have happened if we ignored radical Islam and hoped it would just go away. Radical Islam is like cancer; it needs strong medicine to zap its very existence into oblivion. Ignoring this disease will not cure it.
