Death by a thousand cuts

Reader comment on item: Don't Bring That Booze into My Taxi

I guess now that the floodgates have been opened, Muslim taxi drivers have the right to refuse people eating pork sandwiches and even Jews! This right of Muslims taxi drivers to refuse customers based on religious reasons should be immediately challenged because this is no different than when the U.S. southern states allowed racially segregated bathrooms, drinking fountains, swimming pools, public schools and alike! If a Muslim taxi driver can refuse a potential customer based on religious reasons then any and all businesses can now by law have the right to refuse all reasonable paying customers based on the same flimsy argument! This is a very dangerous and slippery slope because unless this practice of allowing Muslim taxi drivers to pick and choose their customers based on religious reasoning is immediately challenged in the courts then this is the end of America!

If this practice of Muslim taxi drivers being able to legally refuse paying customers based on religious bias is not immediately reversed than anarchy by micro theology will be the death of The United States. A Christian owned airline could now legally refuse all Muslims based on religious reasons, no more worries about hand baggage screening, now come fly with us—Muslim free! Now all business owners that are members of any small religious sect with its own little obnoxious rituals can now legally refuse to serve any member of the public they choose if this potential customer somehow offends these business owners' religious rights. Presently there are all sorts of small religious groups and cults, each come with their own baggage of taboos. Before you know it, good paying potential customers could now be refused by religious business owners for things like: having a pet on a leash or for not having a pet on a leash, for wearing leather clothing, for wearing the wrong religious symbol, for having visible tattoos, for having the wrong color skin, for living in a different part of town, for living in a different state, for having a companion of a different skin color, for being the product of a mixed race (parents were from two separate racial backgrounds), etc., etc., etc.!

This sort of scenario by which I speak of is known as death by a thousand cuts. If this practice of allowing Muslim taxi drivers the right to refuse potential paying customers due to religious reasons isn't immediately legally challenged then The United States will die by thousands of little cuts based on micro theological thuggery! This is the ultimate irony; The United States of America will eventually disintegrate not because it tried to uphold the principle of separating Church and State politics but due to legally allowing any and all believers to enforce their personal religious beliefs at the expense of alienating their fellow citizens! Good-bye United States, say hello to the new world of micro boycotting by religious edict!
