Two light solution would have positive result

Reader comment on item: Don't Bring That Booze into My Taxi

The two light solution is a market-based solution. It informs consumers and allows them to make their own choices.

As a consumer, I would want to avoid doing business with someone who discriminates against the blind, who judges my beverage preferences, etc. But how can I do that??? Without the two light signal, I'm going to have to buy some liquor every single time I fly and be sure to carry it in a clear bag. What a nuisance!

But if the Sharia taxi cabs have two lights, I can choose to avoid those cabbies even if I'm not carrying alcohol. If most people know what those two lights mean, what choice do you think they would make? I'm betting that Sharia-Taxis would be sitting idle most of the time. Rather than result in the spread of this behavior to busses and trains, it would allow the marketplace to "punish" unpopular behaviors. That allows these cab drivers to experience the consequences of their ideology - rather than leaving the consequences to the rest of us.
