Don't Bring that Booze in my TaxiReader comment on item: Don't Bring That Booze into My Taxi Submitted by Achilles M. Perry (United States), Oct 12, 2006 at 00:33 There is absolutely nothing "insidious" or even mildly alarming about taxi drivers who refuse to transport alcohol. ... you seem to forget that there are plenty of other religions that also forbid the use of alcohol. In fact, there are still plenty of dry counties in the United States of America. Nobody suggests that a dry county is an "insidious" threat to the American way of life (except, perhaps for people who think that American life is a Coors Light commercial).... Just for the record, I'd like to point out that I do drink alcohol and I'm not a Muslim. But, I am a very strong believer in personal liberty and the fundamental freedoms on which our nation is based. If a cab driver wants to refuse passage to any person for any legal reason (i.e., not based on illegal prejudice), then it's that driver's right, as a private citizen running a private business, to do so. If you don't like it, then take the bus! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
