No Booze in Cab?

Reader comment on item: Don't Bring That Booze into My Taxi

Submitted by Carol Marlin (United States), Oct 11, 2006 at 19:32

Following is copy of e-mail I sent after reading "no Booze in my cab":

Authorities have caved into the demands of extreme Muslim taxicab operators at the MSP airport allowing a driver to discriminate against anyone carrying a closed bottle of alcohol. The implications of your actions have serious ramifications and I urge you to reconsider.
There is no doubt that behind this seemingly innocuous gesture of goodwill on your part, is the first step of extreme Muslims to impose the laws of Shar'ia on all non-Muslims.
.
We have freedom of expression in this great land, freedom of religious belief however does not mean the ability to impose one's belief on others. These drivers choose to operate in a public arena. It is inappropriate for anyone to be denied access to a service unless the customer
poses a threat or appears to be breaking the law. Carrying a closed bottle of alcohol is not illegal.

And if this new policy comes into effect, it must be permissible for me, or anyone else in line, to refuse to enter into a Taxi that displays such a light. And there must be no penalty assigned to me for discriminating in such a way. Instead of alleviating tensions, I fear that your new system will create a Pandora's box of division and hostility.

Hopefully you have reconsidered.
