Big Mistake

Reader comment on item: Don't Bring That Booze into My Taxi

It seems to me that the left leaning and socialist mindset of so many law and policy makers of the last few decades has led us to a precipice where not just Constitutional but cultural and social achievements stand to be reversed. The issue and therefore the answer it's really a very simple one; The cab driver in this example has every right not to allow alcohol in his car if that is what he chooses according to his religious sensibilities. That being said, the next most logical step is for him to refuse a job as a cab driver since the possibility certainly exists that someone might legally enter his cab with alcohol.

What does not make any logical sense is the attempt to appease the cab drivers' religious laws by allowing them to discriminate against whom they allow in their cabs. When did we decide as a society that it was every persons right to work regardless of the rules and limitations they put on their ability to perform their job?- the answer is we haven't, and we shouldn't.

Mr. Pipes is quite right that this is simply an opening round in a match to challenge the hard won freedoms for individuals we have taken for granted in our society.

The day we allow Sharia law to supplant Constitutional law in any segment of our society (as apparently our European and Canadian friends have) we instantly become unworthy of the liberty and freedoms our ancestors fought and died for.
