I agree that this development could generate a "slippery-slope" of Islamizing US law, but I am not too worried about it right now, because I don't think that non-violent Islamism has much of a future in this country due to the approaching confrontation with Iran. Dr. Pipes has courageously observed that American Jewry has passed its "golden era," but I believe that soft Islamists in this country have passed their "golden era" (the 90s) too, especially after 9/11 and the heightened cultural tensions between the West as a whole and Muslim populations after the Danish cartoon controversy.

A war with Iran could produce terrorism from Muslim communities in the Anglosphere and more guerilla-oriented insurgencies emanating from Muslim communities in Catholic European countries, spawning in turn unprecedented debates on whether Muslims should be allowed to live in the West at all.
