Reader comment on item: Don't Bring That Booze into My Taxi

Submitted by Gary Collier (United States), Oct 10, 2006 at 13:18

I used to be a taxi driver, and I know that taxi drivers don't have to work at the airport. They can go anywhere they want to. Why don't these guys look for fares on the street instead of hanging out at the airport?

Also, how about a campaign to encourage these guys to do just that? Have a bunch of people with booze out there just for the purpose of moving these guys to the end of the line all day. After a few days of no fares, guess what? Either they take St. Ambrose's advice to St. Augustine when he first came to Rome: "When in Rome, live as the Romans do: when elsewhere, live as they live elsewhere"; or they can go back to their native countries. I'm certainly not going to change MY customs to suit their petty prejudices...
