Reader comment on item: The Vatican Confronts Islam

"What was the US excuse during this time?" you ask. Answer: An entrenched, historical, semi-literate isolationism in the US that led ,also, to the draft legislation passed by Congress shorting before WWII only suceeding by the narrowist of margins. US failure to, for example, accept the refugees off the docked St Louis neither absolves the US, nor the Vatican. You have shifted subjects, sir, in an attempt to deflect a position about which you are clearly sensitive, and we digress. So I'll cut to the chase with these questions?

How many WWII era, Western European, Vatican officials sacrificed their lives on behalf of European Jewry?

When was it that the Pope stripped himself of his costumed guards and walked to the door of the Italian government to nail his protests to their alignment with the Nazis on the door?

Tell me of the day when the Vicar of Christ offered to surrender his life in place of one concentration camp internee. On the contrary, sir.

Pope Pius hid in his batcave on that day when he could have witnessed for Christ in a way that might well have cost his life, or his freedom, but he would have been remembered, by Catholics and non-Catholic Christians alike, for the Ages.
