Reader comment on item: The Vatican Confronts Islam

Submitted by Jaladhi (United States), Jul 7, 2006 at 21:50

Since there is no central religious figure equivalent to Pope in Islam, I wonder who the Vatican is talking about reciprocity for non-Muslim lives in Islamic countries. Are they talking to hundreds of millions of Imams about it? And as if these people are going to pay any attention to the pleas from Vatican!! They will just laugh it off.

It will be better if the governments of all non-muslim countries in the world just tell the governments of Islamic countries to provide the same fundamental rights to non-Muslims as Muslims enjoy in the West. And that should include freedom of worship and building of churches, synagogues and temples. There should be moratorium on building of any more mosques in the West until the Islamic countries allow places worship for other religions to be built.

Now, I don't have a hope in heck of West achieving it, but it may be a start of something significant. May be it will put Muslims on notice that things cannot continue as they are now, and their behavior has to change. Could one expect Muslims in the West to pressure the governments of Islamic countries in such a venture, or it will be against their religion?
