Recpirocity is a pipe dream

Reader comment on item: The Vatican Confronts Islam
in response to reader comment: Reciprocity is a pipe dream

Obtaining the same rights for Christians in Islamdom that Muslims enjoy in Christendom has become the key to the Vatican's diplomacy toward Muslims. Good luck.... They won't care. Reminds me a bit of the attitudes of and the rightes of communists in the West back in the 1930s vs the "rights" held by those in the Soviet Union at the time. Stalin didn't care all that much, as I recall. This balanced, serious approach marks a profound improvement in understanding that could have implications well beyond the Church, given how many lay politicians heed its leadership in inter-faith matters. Should Western states also promote the principle of reciprocity, the results should indeed be interesting. The West won't promote reciprocity. Some are too stupid, some feel "turning the other cheek" is still appropriate, some still don't appreciate the multilevel threat of the muslims (forgive me for never capitalizing their religion), and the ACLUs of the world will file suits if muslim rights are violated. Very depressing to me.
