Suppose, as a parent, out of love you gently try to steer your child in the right direction...and at some point, you realize that the "lovey, touchy, feely" method is getting you nowhere. You then decide that you must change and use the strict, disciplinarian approach (still out of love) to effect change in your child for the better.

Would you say that the new approach directly contradicts the old, thereby making yourself a hypocrite...?
