Won't be happening...

Reader comment on item: The Vatican Confronts Islam

Submitted by Don (United States), Jul 5, 2006 at 20:44

Before 911 I knew little if anything about radical islam. I had taken a couple of courses in seminary that provided me with some very general idea's of what traditional muslims believe about God and now they practice their religion.

After my son volunteered for the Army after 911 I decided I was going to learn as much about why these muslims...religious people, who call their religion of peace, felt it necessary to do the terrible things they were doing. I started with Daniel Pipes book, "MIlitant Islam reaches America'...and what I read stunned me. Since that time, I have read the Quran, some of the hadiths, the sharia, at least 12 other books on islamic history and religion and hundreds of articles. I have familiarized myself with the writings of Sayyid Qutb, Mawduddi, and other radicals. The history of the family of Saud and their connection to radical wahabbism. What I 'know' I sometimes wish I did not know.

From my perspective the idea of reciprocal treatment coming from a radical islamist, whether they be Shia or Sunni is naive thinking. It will not be happening now or ever. Some experts such Mark A Gabrial former professor of Islamic History at Al-Azhar University in Egypt would warn that even a traditional muslim would have a hard time with the idea of reciprocity when it comes to religion.

The West had better wake up and wake up quick. We live in dangerous times. The Catholic Church is right to be concerned. Thousands of Christians die each year...Catholic and non-Catholic at the hands of radical muslims in the name of allah. We have a choice, it is either to submit or resist. Christianity does not teach that we should give into evil and allow others to be hurt or killed while we stand-by and watch. In fact we are to resist evil...and radical islam is nothing but pure evil.
