Popularity of Islam among the black Americans

Reader comment on item: Did Michael Jackson Convert to Islam?

Submitted by Tamerlane (United Kingdom), Jul 4, 2009 at 19:23

I read the article by Mr Pipes regarding the possible conversion of Michael Jackson,in which he mentioned a number of black converts who had been found guilty of crimes and that they found solace in Islam thereby converting to it.

According to the CBS news around 20,000 Americans convert to Islam each year, something also alluded to by the Ms Clinton in a speech while she was the first lady.In that speech she said that Islam was the fastest growing religion in America.

After reading the above mentioned article by Mr Pipes,I started wondering as to why such a large number of criminals convet to Islam and not to any other religinon such as hinduism or budhism e.t.c.

I would be interrested to see if someone has any stastics on the number of criminals in the U.S converting to other religions besides Islam.
