The answer to that, my dear Ynnatchkah, is that there are all types of Muslims just as there are all types of human beings. There are those that seek to learn and inform, and then there are those unfortunately who seek to demean and insult others. There are those that are driven not by knowledge (whether it be Islamic or of the broader knowledge base of the human race) but by prejudice and bigotry, and then there are those who genuinely seek to learn and impart knowledge.

Certainly those (Muslims) that are jumping up and down with Michael's conversion to Islam should be asking themselves how much of Islam are they practising themselves? For on the day of Judgement, the Lord will not measure up their partisanship, He will not ask them anything about Michael Jackson's conversion or of the hundreds of coversions to Islam that happen every day; He will ask them what did they do in terms of obeying the dictates of the Lord as conveyed to us by his servant the Prophet? And there is no escape from that.

As Muslims surely there is nothing wrong with their feeling good about someone accepting the word of God but they must not seek to absolve anyone from their possible misdeeds by defending them illogically simply because the person in question accepted Islam. God is the Judge, He only knows the truth and we should leave the judgement to Him. All we can do is say 'Alhamdulillah' (thanks to the Lord), pray that God guide them to the right path, and then focus on ourselves to try to be a better person.

So dear Muslims do not allow bigots (of whom you see a few in this forum) push you to defend individuals about whom you and I simply do not know enough. However, do not let anyone stop you from rejoicing at the spread of the word of God, of the increase in the number of believers, and you have hundreds of reasons to do that every day. And if you are a true Muslim you would do that in the way a Muslim does, i.e start with thanks to the Creator, and then pray for those that have not yet taken up the Message; pray that God give them 'Hidaayat' (knowledge) so they can see the the path of God and embrace that path.
