>What is most bizarre is that Pakistanis still celebrate the life of the likes of Mahmud of Ghazni who brutalized their Hindu ancestors.

DNM, this is a vast subject, what Islamization entails in the polity. V.S.Naipaul (author of Among Believers and Beyond Belief) hit the nain on the head when he says, becoming Muslim means a break with one's own history and becoming a part of Arab muslim history. So Muslims like Pakistanis and Bangladeshis have to believe, if they are to remain good Muslims, that all their ancestors were bad and their ancestral society was a cesspool of all sins, corruptions and injustices in the world till they were "liberated" by murderers and swordsmen from central Asia who killed and enslaved their ancestral society in a massive pogram or rather a series of pograms. That is why Muslims from that part of the world are exercised so much about "Palestianians" or "Status of Jerusalem" or "Israeli atrocities" or even "Crusades" even though these things do not and did not matter to them today or even their historical ancestors.

>There is an interesting story about that maniac Mahmud of Ghazni where we are told that even many >members of his army were horrified by his genocide of Hindus, and his answer was: "But it says in the >book of Allah kill the polytheists, therefore kill the polytheists." Or so we are told.

That was a standard rationalization of most Islamic aggressions against India and Hindu society. Ghazni was not alone in thinking like that. Most Islamic aggressions against Hindus were recounted in great detail, gustoand boastfulness by Islamic chroniclers themselves who accompanied their warlord masters.
