Dear Debbie, your last point was about treatment of Muslim women by their husbands. I'll say that we should be against mistreatment of any women by their husbands, not just of Muslim women. Let me point out that "women's rights" are still an issue in the West even if we have come a long way. The West (mostly Christian) doesn't have an untainted past in this respect. Let us be considerate and give time to other societies who have not been so fortunate as us. There are societies that still do not treat women with dignity and these societies may be following Islam as the predominant religion or Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, or animism. Religion is not the cause of atrocities towards women, it is the backwardness of the societies that is the main cause. If that wasn't the case, we wouldn't be seeing women being mistreated in Christian societies in Africa or Asia; following the same argument French or German or Australian Muslim women would be always mistreated by their husbands being Muslims.

So let us avoid stereotypes and try to analyse the issues without any prejudice.
