Reader comment on item: Did Michael Jackson Convert to Islam?
in response to reader comment: Popularity of Islam among the black Americans

Submitted by BertE (United States), Jan 30, 2010 at 09:54

Most of the converts, so called, to NOI in prison do so for protection, plain pure and simple as that.

Prison populations are dangeroous and everyone in the joint knows if you mess with a Black Muslim, there will be retaliation, probably death.

There are NO "Christian" or "Buddhist" gangs in prison to retaliate and that is all that it boils down to. These so called converts normally could not tell you one thing about Islam, other than the folks wear funky clothes and do a lot of odd prayer services. Odd stuff that appeals to the population.
