Why so much discussion on this issue

Reader comment on item: Michael Jackson and Blacks in Stress Who Convert to Islam

Mr. Pipes ,

I remember that some months back when an Egyptian Muslim Maghdi Allam converted to catholicism you commented that you would not comment on personal choices made by individuals.

My question is if Mr.Jackson has embraced Islam then surely it is his personal choice. You should respect his personal choices like you did in case of Maghdi Allam . What do you think ?

Whether Michael Jackson should convert to Islam or not is out of consideration for me. But the pattern such an act falls into and its impact I do comment on.
