It's not only Turkey's Problem !

Reader comment on item: Is Turkey's Government Starting a Muslim Reformation?

Submitted by Hamdy Mohamed Al-Barassy (Egypt), May 29, 2008 at 11:42

Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes..

I wanted to say that the dilemma of Islamism and its relationships to politics and political practice in the twenty first century is not Turkey's own affair;but is rather the whole (so-called) Islamic world. Muslims view their religion as a castle of identity that must not be allowed to be conquered or invaded by any other politico-cultural institution

Their problems arise from their illuded views about the validity of the application of these seventh-century-dogmatic sets of conceptions at this present time. Yet,there are many voices calling for leaving,or at least modifying, these idolised sets of conceptions or for finding out new horizons away from these Islamicist notions which are no longer applicable. Moreover, they attempt to inintiate some kind of establishing new and different econo-politico-social approaches toward the (so traditionally called ) dilemma of Israel.

As far as I am concerned, Israel , per se, represents no problem. The real problem lies in the Arab Political Strategies concerning dealing with Israel. This is, of course, an inevitable result of the weak ,or even dying, Arab-Arab Dialogue. I think that the so-called problem of Israel can be demographically solved provided that the Arabs can find out new strategies both of dealing with themselves,in the first place, and with Israel and the West Powers.

Kindly accept my suggestion of reading books of the new open-minded Arab thinkers and their reflections on these issues. There are, for example. " Dr. Kamal Abdul-Latif , ( Think About Secularism : The Reconstruction of Politics in The Arab Thought) " and Arkon's books.

Thanks for giving me an access to contact you,

Hamdy Mohamed Al-Barassy.
