Let me try to clarify , Hope you understand!!Reader comment on item: Is Turkey's Government Starting a Muslim Reformation? Submitted by Proud Indian (India), Sep 5, 2008 at 00:18 Dear Mr JJ, The thread of the discussion started when Mr/Ms Nishi asked a question in the forum whether NUNs are forced to wear headscarfs or not and whether or not restrictions on the nuns amount to voilation of basic women's rights!!! The question was asked just to divert the main issue of islam reinforcing the hijab on women. I agree with you that in order to be closer to god, the nuns have to leave the normal way of life.. BUT IT IS REALLY VERY ESSENTIAL TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE FREEDOM OF MAKING THE CHOICE TO LEAD A LIFE THAT WAY LIES WITH THE NUNS OR THE WOMEN WHO CHOOSE TO BE NUNS!!! It is just like joining the army.. you can choose to join the army and you can choose to leave the army if you wish to.. but once you join the army you have to live your life as per the army rules and regulations... My bone of contention with nishi was christainity does not impose its values on its followers by way of force / coercion / or religious police ( like the muttaween in saudi arabia and taliban in afghanistan ). The world has yet to see clergies, priests and nuns flogging women who choose to sunbath in bikinis or go topless on the beaches. I have not yet heard about a religion ordinance issued by the pope to check the ever reducing skirtlines.. In india we have nuns who wear traditional sarees and preach.. i have seen it with my own eyes..
