Reader comment on item: Is Turkey's Government Starting a Muslim Reformation?
in response to reader comment: faith must be backed by reasons

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Jun 12, 2008 at 22:49

Dear Baneeshkhan,

I do have a Bible, and I read it nearly every day. I have read through most of the Bible, but not straight through. I don't believe that God wants us to make a contest of reading His word. I don't understand everything in the Bible, nor everything in the universe for that matter, and I really don't want to. There are some things in the Bible that bother me, perhaps things that I wish weren't so, but because I believe it is the word of God, how can I argue against Him? Proverbs 3:5 states "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not to thine own understanding." The more we try to apply human logic and intellect to God's superior intellect, that becomes the place where we stumble every time. I have also read the Koran, (I lived in Egypt for ten years) but because this is not from my beliefs, I cannot apply this to my life, although I'm sure it has some merit, and if you are Muslim, this is your holy book. Shall we agree to disagree?
