Turkish Islam?

Reader comment on item: Is Turkey's Government Starting a Muslim Reformation?

Submitted by trans-parere (Canada), May 23, 2008 at 18:02

I like the thought of a Turkish Islam [I would like to see a Canadian Islam]. I would say to my fellow posters; lets give the Turks our encouragement and not dampen their ardour by prejudging their intent. Let us not judge their efforts by quantity rather examine the quality. Often times a little bit of honest change does more to encourage openness -as broad sweeping changes can promote the conservative Moslem to feel devalued and attacked for being faithful.

Too much is at stake to have the conservative Turks fortress up and become inflexible. What happens in Turkey may well influence all of Europe down the road.

Cheers
