Torchbearer!?!? The only torch islam has ever carried is the one it used to destroy the places of worship of the non-islamic peoples it subdued (Speaking of torches, what was it that happened in the Great Library in Alexandria, did someone carrying a torch stumble? I wonder?).

As I've said before - the people who did all the innovating were the decendants of the peoples who were subjugated by those wild-eyed arabs that poured out of that GOD forsaken land - the arabs, at first, didn't even have a written language, how advanced of them. Oh and please refer to the quotation from the quran where mohammad encourages the quest for knowledge, I must have missed that one - and while you're at it, find the one where he lambasts the Jews for charging him too much for the bits and pieces of the Talmud they would sell him - I always find that amusing when I happen upon it.

Well, I have to admit it is difficult to think 'big' when your mind is otherwise occupied with trying to keep a pack of Barbarians in their place and out of yours - so it's no wonder that Europe was unable to set itself back up on the road of inquiry until after after having repulsed the muslim invaders from southern Europe. That constant pressure of islamic jihad was the real reason for Europe's long slumber in ignorance.

Christianity this - Christianity that - I realize you can't separate your religion from your ideology - but I can and I do - from the moment Constantine declared 'Christianity' the state religion of the Roman Empire he created a religio-ideology that for all intents and purposes smothered that true and perfect entity that was established by the Apostles of the LORD. The true Church still existed, but you won't find it wearing fancy robes and all puffed up and full of itself on the pages of any history book - that was never it's modus operandi - and it never will be. I cannot defend or identify with anything that religio-ideology did or allowed to be done in the name of the TRUE and LIVING GOD - their judgement is sure, I will leave it at that.

As I've said before whenever you combine religion with government you get BAD government and WORSE religion. Religion can not handle Power - government can not handle absolute Power. Religion should limit government but not direct it - government should respect religion but not establish it.

Western governments have managed to free themselves from the over-arching authority of religions, they have evolved - they have changed, some for the better some not so much but they have changed none the less. The problem with islam is that it has not separated (and perhaps cannot separate) into it's two parts - religion and ideology - and this makes it difficult to discuss matters in an even-handed manner. My ideology cannot converse with yours because your religion keeps butting in and vice versa. It's quite a 'pickle'.
