Reader comment on item: Recruiting Soldiers Against Radical Islam

.......Is right here.

Islam's hardliners are maniacs who believe in 10th century (at best) ideals and really have no place in our modern world. Those who believe all others who are not muslims are second-class citizens are ones who we should fight against. We had a similar situation in South Africa from 1948 to 1994, and we beat it there through understanding, and through the idea that all of us are born equal, we are judged based on what we all do with our lives.

Moderate Islam (secular Islam as this article calls it) is our way to fix this mess. 9/11 should have been a wakeup call, and a judgment day, forcing all of us to see who the enemy is, and then destroy them. Moderate Muslim organizations and leaders should have our full support no matter what happens, unless they burn our trust. Al-Queda, Hamas, Jemaah Islamiah, Muslim Brotherhood, Abu Sayyaf - we make these organizations, and anyone who works with or for or is a member of these organizations, a target.

There are more of us than them. We have more money and bigger guns than them. We are also smarter and more forward-thinking than them. Let's start working on this.

Where do we start? Iran.

Iran's population is extremely young - the median age is under 25, and 2/3 of them we're alive when the 1979 Revolution that brought the mullahs to power happened. And they are not happy with the current leadership, as Ahmadinejad's current troubled position is showing.

So here's our angle.

Every nation STOPS buying oil from Iran. And we say publicly that we disagree with the Iranian regime, and that we will deal with moderate, democratic, secular Muslim nations, AND THAT'S IT.

The rest of the world follows suit, and China cannot buy all of the Middle East's oil. Result? They change course, and fast. Iran would go first, for the reasons mentioned above. Then when their moderate government is in place, we get oil from them - and we pay a slightly premium price for it, giving this government some cash to work with and the ability to make things better.

Iran would get better economically, and the rest of the Muslim world looks over and says "What the heck, why do they have it so good?"

It starts with Iran.
