Yes, one can try to make comparisons with Germany and Japan and yes, they did experience the "crucible" of their own dictatorships. But it seems to me that the real elephant in the living room is simply 1500 or so years of an addled culture. While Germany and Japan were afflicted with temporary insanity, it appears that irrationality is chronic in the Islamic world.
