When Will We Learn Not to Meddle

Reader comment on item: [The Hamas Electoral Victory:] Democracy's Bitter Fruit

Submitted by Alice Lillie (United States), Jan 30, 2006 at 09:42

It seems like every time the U.S. gets involved with other countrys' affairs, it backfires.

We supported Osama bin Laden in the '80's. We supported Saddam Hussein too it seems.

And now look. We are bringing both of them down, and what will rise in their places?

We supported democracy in Palastine and now Hamas has won an election. It always backfires.

The solution is to bring all troops home and quit meddling. Yes, I know. 9-11. The establishment says 9-11 "necessitates" these involvements. Well, it was such involvements that caused 9-11 in the first place!!

Meanwhile, on the home front, we are losing our freedom! This, of course has been going on for decades, but especially since Bush took office. How did this begin and what has happened? I have my ideas.
