"Democratization took place in Germany, Japan, and the Soviet Union after their populations had endured the totalitarian crucible" and OVERWHELMING FORCE was applied.

In Germany and Japan, it was direct military force. In the Soviet Union, arguably indirect.

The display of strength and the willingness to use it acted to convince the populations of their defeat.

Your slow down and defeat radical Islam are the essential ingredients of failure. This is akin to waiting for cancer to go away by temporizing treatment expecting the malignancy to realize that it is disease and disappear of its own volition.

Shock and awe was a carrot. It is time to convincingly use the stick.
