Defeating Jihad

Reader comment on item: [The Hamas Electoral Victory:] Democracy's Bitter Fruit

Mr. Pipes proposed strategy includes "defeat radical Islam". I agree. They need to have the dream of destruction of the Jews and of world rule pummeled out of them so thoroughly that they will become dormant for another century or so.

However, the root cause of jihad, which is the teaching of the Koran and Hadith, needs to be dealt with, and this is strictly a religious matter. The Muslims' bad habit of beheading Christian missionaries has retarded such efforts in the past. While the Western military are in that region, they should encourage and protect Christian missionary efforts -- both native Christians and outsiders.
How can the U.S. do this in harmony with its vaunted separation of church and state? We have a talent for tying one hand behind our back.
