Democracy Now?

Reader comment on item: [The Hamas Electoral Victory:] Democracy's Bitter Fruit

Dr. Pipes:
In this article you have hit the nail right, squarely, on the head and you drove it right into the subject!

Forcing democracy onto a hostile populace when their spoken intent is whatever it takes for OUR destruction and demise is insane. First a change of heart has to take place within the hostile populace, which, as stated, can take years. We must be patient and find the bombs and terrorists as they arise; a bloody process, as past history has proven.

Are we up to the task? If not, we will be fighting democratically elected governments, but then again, this has not bothered our leaders who have fought democratically elected governments in South America. We might as well be upfront with the whole process in play and stick by what President Bush said when this battle came to the fore on September 11 - your are either with us or against us....As an aside, we must not lose our freedom in the process and we need to clean up our act in regard to prisoner treatment and the establish a policy regarding the detention of persons and charges against them that caused their detention.

If there is enough evidence to arrest, then there should be enough evidence to bring charges. If not, then we are doing lazy intelligence work and must do better.
